landscapes

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while. I just finished my 7th midterm in one month yesterday so I decided I needed to take some pictures ASAP. Because of where Vancouver is in the Pacific time-zone, it gets really dark here early, so I took these as soon as I could after class. These pictures were taken between 4:30 and 5:00 pm. The twilight actually made for some amazing lighting, especially with the fog further in the distance of the last two. I love the lookout from Burnaby Mountain Park and the last two pictures are of Burrard Inlet and Downtown Vancouver. Feel free to comment!!

mountain sound

So my school is on a mountain, and therefore all the buildings are built at different heights. I finally found out how to get onto the roof of this one building which overlooks the north side of Burrard Inlet. It snowed over night just at the higher altitudes on the mountains in the distance, which was beautiful in the background of the green, red and yellow trees here. The second picture is from Saturday when I also went to Stanley Park and took some pictures there! (more at www.fashion-lesscity.tumblr.com)
Anyways, I went thrifting on Friday and found 3 amazing sweaters for under $10 each. This one is my favourite because it has earth tones in it, of course. I also went to the newly opened Topshop in Pacific Center downtown on Saturday and got a few things, plus this free hat! I hope everyone likes it, and feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts!

three angles, one sunset

I couldn't even believe how gorgeous the sunset was tonight. The fall colours and the sun against the clouds created surreal colour combinations. The first picture is facing west-southwest, the second facing south, and the third facing northwest (out my dorm window), which gives an all around feel to the different angles of the sun.

I think of timing all the time

First things first, Ellie Goulding's new album came out, and although its not all that I had hoped for, it's still worth a listen! Secondly, winter has arrived in Vancouver and, although it hasn't begun to rain quite yet, I have been living completely engulfed in the clouds the past 3 days (as you can see by the top picture).
As the weather has become significantly colder and more damp, I have been bundling up the past few days, and yesterdays look I was particularly fond of. I need to buy more think socks because they are so comfy and warm in my combat boots. As well, this scarf is my absolute favourite thing right now because of how think, soft, and warm it is...not to mention that it is also has a very fall pallet. I wanted that to be the focal point, so I purposely dressed in mostly black and grey to make the pumpkin and cranberry pop. The fact that I'm wearing this little colour is in fact an anomaly in my dressing habits. Check back soon for more looks!

I was following the pack

At first I was apprehensive to wear three articles that were all mostly blue. But then I just though to hell with it because I love blue! The cardigan and shirt are still my favourites, and I really like how the pearl buttons on my jean shirt go with the creamy white in the stitching of my cardigan. It was super cold yesterday and I thought that this look, in a way, reflected the tones of the light through the clouds. That actually went through my mind, I'm not even making it up. Anyways, that's all for now! Off to study for psych!

any old lie will do

So this is my first post since I moved to Vancouver! The top two pictures are of downtown and the view outside my dorm. I love this city!!
This look was something I thought up this weekend, and I wanted to show off a couple of new pieces to my wardrobe all in one. These shoes are incredible and I wish I had more opportunities to wear them. I got them on sale at Nordstom in Chicago for $100 to make them even more incredible. I bought these emerald pants because they're such a cool, unique colour; as opposed to a more army or khaki green. Again, the title for the look comes from Fleet Foxes self titled album, which has still been on repeat since the last time I posted.
Feel free to comment to let me know what you think! You don't even need a Google account!

the quivering forest

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but as you can tell there has been a change of scenery. I'm in Vancouver now! This is what I get to look at up here on Burnaby Mountain at Simon Fraser University. The rolling Cascade mountains and Pacific Ocean in the background still catch me by surprise every day and I still cannot get over how beautiful and picturesque this city is. My muse for this post is Lauren! I wanted her to be dressed in all black because I wanted her outfit to represent the silhouette of the mountains here against the blond sun. The last two pictures are my favourite because the lighting was just perfect for both, and I love the almost ghostly feel in them. I know the album is a little old, but I am absolutely obsessed with Fleet Foxes' self-titled album from 2008 and the title of the post comes from their song "Blue Ridge Mountains". I picked this song for the title because of the haunting harmonies, and the whole thing is absolutely worth listening to! I'm heading to Yaletown tomorrow downtown, so I'll be sure to bring my camera!

let this be our little secret

Okay so I'm finally actually writing something about this look. So, I was looking for a hat to wear and I was going to build my outfit around that. I went searching in the closet and found this Irish cap I bought my Dad last time I was in Ireland. My thought was so look rustic and have an old-time working class look about myself. Hunting around I decided that just a normal pair of blue jeans, my new Steve Madden boots, and my stripped Urban Outfitters shirt would be the best options. And there you have it!

i wont let you down

I wanted to illustrate the power of a pop of colour in this post. Although I personally don't wear a lot of black and white, I certainly do appreciate it on other people. I especially like it when people wear black and white, but then have one small article that adds colour to the outfit. In this look, Nathalie is wearing a simple black blazer, a white v-neck (of mine) and black high wasted shorts. What makes the whole outfit come together is the colourful scarf. It adds a new dimension to the outfit and makes it a little more interesting to people looking at the outfit! I hope this helps :)

must get out

I dug up these linen pants I forgot I bought in Chicago a while back because I was curious about how they would look with my combat boots, and how I could use the black and white together. I decided to keep it simple on top, nothing too overwhelming. That's why I used my navy cardigan and deep cranberry scarf. Nathalie and I got these shots right before it started to monsoon yesterday. It actually flooded the shopping strip right down from my house that's how much rain we got. I leave for Vancouver in 10 days so the countdown is really on now! Wish me luck everyone :)
